The Oakcliff team has been hard at work preparing our fleet of six Melges 24s for the Doublehanded Offshore Race next week, July 14-15. The offshore trainees, led by Fleet Manager Cat Chimney, are full steam ahead "offshore-izing" the Melges. Follow their journey on the Oakcliff website and Facebook page.
Oakcliff Board President and winning match racer Dave Perry will be inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame. Gary Jobson wrote this about Dave: "Fundamentally, Dave Perry has three attributes: he is a great sailor, is a passionate teacher and one of the top authorities on The Racing Rules of Sailing." - Oakcliff concurs and congratulates our President.
On another note, summer is heating up, so come cool down on one of Oakcliff's Classic boats. Mischief, Oriole, and Dolphin are available to take out for supporter sails on Friday and Saturday from 12pm to 5pm. Sign up online or contact Francis at with questions.
Happening this week: the Freedom Schooner Amistad America will be docked in Oyster Bay this weekend. The ship is a replica of a Baltimore Clipper Ship that was taken over and by the Haitian slaves it was transporting. Check out more about the Amistad here. This Saturday at 5pm they will hoist a Black Lives Matter flag with a short ceremony with tours until sunset, then on Sunday will host tours from 12-5pm.
In preparation for the ship's visit, the trainees at Oakcliff are going to make their own movie theater by hoisting a jib up the wall of the bunkhouse and projecting the movie Amistad #totalsailormove
