McConaghy takes on the BlackCat 30

by Guy Nowell 7 Apr 2020 20:05 PDT

McConaghy, the Zhuhai (China) builder of high-performance and specialised mono and multihull yachts and superyachts, states that its yards in both Australia and China are both fully operational.

Alongside considerable efforts to ensure the safety of its workforce, the company has also made a substantial input to ensure that production schedules are maintained and that owners can continue to plan for use of their new vessels, due for delivery later in the year.

In respect of work this year and ongoing, an MC60 catamaran was delivered to owners in Florida at the start of the year. Hull #3 of the MC60 is nearing completion alongside builds of her MC50 and MC55 sister ships. McConaghy says that it has opportunities for accelerated deliveries within 2020.

Regarding the new BlackCat 30, which was unveiled at the end of February, the company reports that several enquiries have already been received. The 30.4m (100ft) multihull from BlackCat Superyachts is the latest model to be added the brand’s range, which has been designed by award-winning superyacht designer, Malcolm McKeon.

The BlackCat 30 design has been created following a number of client requests for a catamaran of this size and it is the latest addition to the portfolio of these next generation, sleek, state-of-the-art, and high-performance multihull superyachts. The BlackCat 50 was the first of these impressive multihulls to be introduced to the marketplace, and the BlackCat 30 has the same lines as its larger sister and features an interior designed by M2 Atelier.

The BlackCat 30 offers space for up to eight guests in six cabins, along with quarters for a crew of four. The yacht has a very open and spacious feel, with the main deck saloon on a single level and big enough to cater for large dinner parties and entertaining.

McKeon says: “The advantages of fast and comfortable sailing on a multihull, capable of cruising at 20 knots and reaching maximum speeds in excess of 30 knots, with a low heel angle and a stable platform, make the BlackCat 30 an appealing alternative to a 40m monohull.” The design also offers a lot of customisation options to meet all client needs.

The BlackCat range of superyachts are at the cutting edge of cruising performance and due to the lightweight carbon fibre construction, the yachts are able to sail or motor very efficiently, minimising emissions and, in some cases, eliminating them completely.

BlackCat Superyachts has identified McConaghy Boats as the builder of choice for the BlackCat 30 as they are widely regarded as the experts in the specialist construction of midsize carbon fibre multihulls. McConaghy is the latest addition to the existing alliance of industry-leading suppliers united by BlackCat Superyachts, with other notable names involved including North Sails and Southern Spars, reinforcing the benchmark already established by BlackCat Superyachts in the large luxury cruising catamaran market.
