Do you have unused old Topper hulls at your club? With a little bit of know-how and a bit of effort, these boats can easily be restored and re-activated. The 'Re-Activate your Toppers' initiative aims to get these dinghies back on the water.
This initiative started back in 2017 when Roger Proctor (son of Ian Proctor who designed the Topper dinghy) showed the world how it was possible to rejuvinate an old hull, with stunning results. Roger said, "The great thing about polypropylene is that it's really easy to bring back to life." Hulls that were supposedly worth next-to-nothing were able to leap to a resale value of almost £1000!
This video shows you how the experts do not need any special knowledge or tools to make the miracle transformation. Wire wool, white spirit, cream cleaner, a heat gun... nothing much else is required. Put in a little work, and the results are surprising.
