The Harken Tech Team show you the fundamentals of filling-in and patching-up damage to your dinghy's centreboard in this two-part tutorial. A perfect thing to get done if you're currently stuck at home!

This is part of the 'Blockheads' series from Harken, and looks at a fibreglass centreboard which requires both a simple gelcoat repair to the outer layers, as well as a deeper repair to the core where a hole has gone right through.

Part 1 covers grinding down the area, and warns you about the dangers of breathing in particles of the dust created. It is really useful to see a clear example of the consistency required when mixing the components together. The video ends at the point where you would leave the repair to dry overnight.

Part 2 returns the next day to peel the tape off and see what needs to be done next - more grinding - and concludes with several thin coats of the gelcoat. The presenter even talks about avoiding wasting mixture and brushes.
