Royal Akarana Yacht Club (RAYC) is proud to announce a challenge for the Youth America's Cup, to be hosted in Auckland, New Zealand, during the America's Cup in 2021.

RAYC has had in influx of youth sailors since increasing capacity to its highly successful Sailing Academy, which has provided pathways for youth to compete in local, national and world championship events. As a result of the Academy's success, numerous world championship titles have been won by graduates and participation has increased across the board.

With RAYC entering the Youth America's Cup, the goal is to continue showcasing available pathways for sailors to develop their skills in an everchanging environment.

The Auckland Sailing Club (ASC) now a part of RAYC, leads the world in the 18 Foot Skiffs and this is also a key pathway for youth sailors. We see an overlap between the Youth Americas Cup and skiff sailing.

RAYC Commodore Matt Woodley says "Youth sailing is a key to the future of RAYC, by keeping the young sailing for longer we improve their chances of sailing for life. The Youth America’s Cup provides an exciting challenge that will be watched around the world."

The Youth America's Cup is a friendly competition between clubs of all nations and after RAYC successfully hosted one of the biggest 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships in December 2019, the club made a commitment to ensure that youth members were provided with exposure to more international events.

Interested sailors are encouraged to complete the expression of interest form found here which will be sent to the selection panel for processing.

RAYC looks forward to building a team to take on the Youth America’s Cup Challenge.
