Best keelboat sailing in the country for less than the price of an RC Laser?

Squib sailing thrills © Hyde Sails

On show at the RYA Dinghy Show this weekend is an extraordinary demonstration of how top level racing can be accessed cheaply.

The Squib class is probably the most consistently successful keelboat in the country with 53 years of spectacularly close racing with Nationals attendance usually between 50 and 100 boats. One of the secrets is affordability. You can win in a Squib by buying a boat that is certainly available for £5000! Less than the price of a new Laser...

But the Squib on Stand H10 at the RYA Dinghy Show cost its owner Chris Agar and his girlfriend Lauren less than the price of a R/C Laser? Sure, you can see that it has soaked up a lot of DIY effort (and still has a way to go before it's going to win the Concours d'Elegance!), but it's hard to argue that top level sailing is not accessible on a budget when you read their story and look at the boat.

The NSOA hopes to see you there.
