Having sailed at Hamilton Island Race Week on numerous occasions I know from experience the difference between sleeping in a well-appointed hotel/chalet room as opposed to a pipe cot aboard the yacht. Chalk and cheese especially after a long race followed by the normal Hamilton Island hospitality.

It's time to start thinking about Hamilton Island Race Week 2020. All the best properties book out well in advance. There are a number of options available but be quick as the best deals get snapped up early.

If you are looking to update your current race boat, Race Yachts, who specialise in brokering racing yachts exclusively may have a boat to suit. The Cookson 50 has its own little niche in the Race Yacht market. A concept put together by legendary kiwi boat builder Mick Cookson and the Farr office, the outcome achieved was a sleek, stylish race yacht that combines performance racing with an unusual level of comfort.

Dealer appointments include Rapido Trimarans who have appointed Multihull Solutions as the Asia Pacific dealer for its innovative range of ocean-cruising trimarans. The Rapido Trimarans range, comprising the Rapido 60, 50 and 40, are receiving international acclaim for their remarkable speed, performance and value. Designed by world-acclaimed naval architects, Morrelli & Melvin Design and Engineering and built by Triac Composites in Vietnam, Rapido Trimarans feature outstanding stability and excellent speed, with their shallow draft enabling them to access anchorages off limits to most other vessels.

While this website is dedicated to the leisure boat industry, it is hard to ignore the success of local Australian boat builder Steber International. The experience of Steber International, coupled with the proven Westcoaster design, has created a niche marketing opportunity for Australia's leading manufacturer of commercial fibreglass vessels. Steber's first and largest vessel is en route to the Republic of Mauritius and even before delivery, another export project is in the planning stages. The Mauritius Government will take delivery of the 61ft Investigator II fisheries research vessel in late March.

Product news this week includes Navico, parent company to the Lowrance®, Simrad®, B&G® and C-MAP® brands who have announced the launch of the WM-4 Marine Satellite Receiver for SiriusXM® weather and audio. Delivering vital weather and fishing information to Lowrance HDS LIVE and HDS Carbon, Simrad NSS evo3 and NSO evo3, and B&G Zeus3 and Zeus3 Glass Helm systems, the WM-4 Satellite Weather Receiver offers up-to-date, detailed weather forecasts, weather radar, lightning, storm warnings, sea surface temperature and much more. The new, compact WM-4 replaces the WM-3 Marine Satellite Receiver.

And while everyone in Australia knows, there has been a spate of shark incidents recently resulting in some major damage to people unlucky enough to get in their way. Sharkbanz, the leader in shark deterrent technology, continued its mission to mitigate human/shark conflict this past December, 2019. Travelling to North-western Australia, the team demonstrated how successful its patented shark deterrent band can be on native species such as the Bronze Whaler, responsible for numerous incidents throughout the continent over the past decade. To date, the US-based company has focused the bulk of its research and testing on species within the North American region, successfully proving its deterrent effect on Bull Sharks as confirmed by independent third-party analysis in 2018. The company has a global presence providing ocean safety solutions to customers in South Africa, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific, with its products being distributed in Australia since 2015.
