Pine Harbour boat owners have been benefiting from a new monitoring service offered by local marine electrician, Ryan Castles.

Castles operates Pine Harbour Electrical providing the BoatSecure monitoring service for boats berthed in the Pine Harbour marina.

The service is proving popular with boat owners for the extra peace of mind BoatSecure gives by ensuring their boat is taken care of 24/7.

“BoatSecure is a valuable part of the Pine Harbour Electrical business"' Castles explains. "We can monitor all the boats from a single web dashboard and check on boats without having to make frequent trips to each berth. We’ve been able to address several issues before they’ve become costly repairs and that is good for boat owners and enhances our reputation in keeping boats ready for sailing.”

BoatSecure keeps boats ready for sailing by checking that there are no onboard problems when the boat is in a marina or on a mooring. The system checks that onboard electrical systems haven’t failed, especially if a loss of shore power connection occurs. BoatSecure also monitors bilge pump operation and can be installed to check for intruders onboard. GPS location and drift is also reported.

Local boat owner Mike is an enthusiastic user, “I’m often away overseas and it’s been really helpful to check the shore power on the BoatSecure app as power does trip off occasionally. A quick message to Ryan means he can also doublecheck with the app and reset the circuit breaker if needed. I’m sure the system has saved my batteries already. When I’m back home I know I can head out sailing without worrying whether there has been an issue onboard whilst I’m away.”

Ryan adds, “We like that the system gives us voltage reporting graphs for the boat batteries as we can remotely check their health condition. If batteries do discharge over a period of days or weeks they can be significantly damaged beyond recovery. Replacement of a battery bank can cost many thousands of dollars. With just a few months of operation with BoatSecure, we’re already very convinced of the system value for protecting boats and saving maintenance costs for boat owners.”

Ryan also says, “ BoatSecure also checks bilge pump operation and can be installed with door sensors or motions sensors to alert if someone goes onboard the boat. These are useful peace of mind features for boat owners to get reports on their phone of any other issue that needs attention.”

Pine Harbour is part of the Beachlands community on the edge of the Auckland city region and is a sought after location for those after a peaceful seaside environment without giving up city benefits. Pine Harbour Marina provides 550 fully serviced berths, dry stack and a full range of marine services. The marina also has a rapid ferry service into the Auckland CBD alongside local cafes, shops, and entertainment.

Pine Harbour Electrical is a well-regarded team led by Ryan Castles. They provide a complete range of services for local boat owners as well as those on the nearby Hauraki Gulf islands and Auckland city-based.

BoatSecure is based in Auckland where the system is designed, manufactured and operated. The service is expanding throughout New Zealand and are working on more new features and international opportunities.
