Zhik supports Nick Moloney's Olympic offshore ambitions for 2024

by Liz Rushall 13 Feb 2020 08:00 PST

Nick Moloney is the latest talented sailor to join Zhik's team of world class athletes. Inspired by the new double-handed offshore class for the 2024 Olympic Games, Nick recently announced his comeback to elite short-handed offshore sailing.

Teaming up with long time friend and sailing colleague Adrienne Cahalan OAM (Order of Australia) to represent Australia, the pair have sailed in 8 round the World races. Their track record together includes the Volvo Ocean Race, the Vendee Globe and the Jules Verne trophy, winning numerous titles and breaking many sailing world records. Whilst Adrienne has previously competed on the Olympic circuit, until now Nick's focus has been on short-handed ocean and round the world racing.

In between his sailing commitments, Nick is continuing his career as an adventurer and is currently heading to Antarctica. Alongside a group of scientists and Inmarsat partners, Nick will be learning more about safeguarding the natural environment in this precious region.

The journey coincides with the 200th anniversary of the first discovery of Antarctica, when 19th century explorers were making history finding new frontiers. Nick will be creating and providing valuable content documenting the extent of change that Antartica is enduring due to climate change.

"For me, moving into Olympic sailing now feels like the right thing to do. The technical aspects of this new offshore class for 2024 will play to my strengths. And it's serendity that the Games are in France, which is where my children live," Nick explains. "It's also very important to me to work with progressive brands on joint initiatives, such as technical product development. Both my Olympic campaign and Antarctica trip will put all our technical equipment and clothing through extreme challenges. Teaming up with Zhik and working alongside their enthusiasm for continuous improvement feels like the perfect technical partner for me."

Zhik's global sales manager, Simon Payne acknowledges, "We are delighted that Nick is joining our team of some of the World's most renown sailors. Nick will be putting our gear through its paces down in the Antarctic. His extensive experience both as an ocean sailor and an adventurer will bring us valued insights into the design and durability of our technical clothing."
