Following an announcement of a trade deal between the US and China, governments globally are taking a deep breath as the economic outlook for 2020 takes a more positive turn.

Australia's marine expertise is also securing overseas deals and the Marina Industries Association (MIA) and the Chinese Sports Industry Group (CSI) have recently signed an exclusive partnership to jointly commence marina training and accreditation in China. The partnership commits the MIA and CSI to work together to provide the Chinese marina industry with an international standard career pathway for marina staff. Additionally, there will be cooperation in the roll out the Global Gold Anchor and the International Clean Marina accreditation programs that will assist with the development of marina business practices and operations.

While recent rain has diminished the bush fire threat temporarily the clean up will take a long time. It is always good to hear of marine industry members 'chipping in'. The team at GME have been deeply affected by this tragic series of events, the impacts of which have resonated to the very core of their customer base in many areas around Australia in which the company has operated for over 60 years. Over recent weeks, the team at GME have proactively contacted a number of RFS, CFA, and CFS branches through our existing networks, to ensure radio communications solutions are freely available in the worst affected areas of the country.

Meanwhile Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: IRDM) announced that on December 19, 2019 a Letter of Compliance was signed by the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), stating it has positively verified the operational and technical requirements as requested by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for Iridium to provide Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) service. The Letter of Compliance was formally presented to Iridium CEO Matt Desch by the Director General of IMSO, Captain Moin Ahmed, during a ceremony at Iridium's headquarters on the morning of January 13, 2020. The issuance of the letter formally authorizes Iridium to now provide satellite GMDSS service, bringing truly global coverage and a choice of both network and equipment to this critical emergency service for the first time.

Anyone who has dreamed of sailing around the world will be following the Clipper Around the World Yacht Race. The Whitsundays will come alive over the next seven days with the arrival of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race to its shores. A week of wondrous events is planned throughout the region to celebrate the arrival of the competitors. From a luxurious long lunch on the iconic Whitehaven Beach, to a community welcome and Clipper Race prize-giving event in the heart of Airlie Beach and the Rodeo by the Reef in Bowe, the Whitsundays Clipper Race Carnival will engage and excite the race crews and their loyal supporters.

While electric propulsion is a constant 'news' item in these days of talk regarding renewable energy, traditional power sources are still very prominent. The new edition Volvo Penta D13 propulsion system delivers the benefits of the Volvo Penta Inboard Performance System (IPS) to semi-displacement large yachts.

Volvo Penta ventures into new waters by expanding its IPS propulsion system to the larger semi-displacement yachting segment with the updated D13 IPS 1350 semi-displacement (SD). The new edition Volvo Penta D13 propulsion system's torque curve has been expertly modified to cope with higher thrust loads at slower speeds. The D13 IPS 1350 SD also has a wider speed range down to 19 knots (former 25 knots).
