The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia is offering six lucky guests the opportunity of a lifetime - to play an active part in the invitation-only Grinders Coffee SOLAS Big Boat Challenge, held on Sydney Harbour Tuesday 10 December.

eBay auction listings have been created and are now open for the annual maxi yacht race, a vital lead-up event ahead of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, with bidding closing between 19:00 and 20:45 on Sunday, 8 December.

Positions aboard Black Jack, InfoTrack, SHK Scallywag and Wild Oats X (or Wild Oats XI if available) are up for grabs, with all money raised through the auctions donated to CYCA SOLAS Trusts.

Winning bidders will receive a guest spot aboard the yachts for the race that commences on Tuesday 10 December at 1230hrs.

The CYCA's Safety of Life at Sea Trusts (SOLAS) was set up as a charitable trust in 1999 as a result of the tragic events of the 1998 Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. It has donated more than $1,760,000 since that time.

The CYCA SOLAS Trusts' objectives are to provide assistance (financial and other) to immediate families of those lost at sea during Australian Sailing Federation sanctioned races; to make donations and provide support to search and rescue organisation; and to foster and fund research and training to improve safety and rescue procedures and equipment used in ocean races.

Please note, the boat owner has the final approval that the guest may be on board for the race. In the event of a denial the winning bidder will be refunded. The winning bidder will be required to sign a disclaimer available from the Organising Authority.
