It's less than a month away until a fleet of 60-65 International 14s will descend on Perth Dinghy Sailing Club for the start of the CST Composites i14 2020 Perth Worlds.

Competitors have entered from Australia, United States, Canada, Great Britain, Italy and Japan and registrations are still open. The organising committee anticipates a large contingent of Australian entries from around the country, including Tasmania - the first-time competitors from the island Australian state have competed in a national, let-alone a world championship. Among the registrants is the current World Champion, father and son duo, Andy and Tom Partington from Great Britain.

Perth Dinghy Sailing Club, the host venue, has a rich history in Fourteens dating back to its formation in 1903. At one part in its history, the club was called the Perth 14ft Dinghy Sailing Club in recognition of the popularity of the 14 footers.

One of the club legends is Brad Devine, son of club and class legend Bill Devine, first Australian to win the open world championship back in 1979. Brad and his long-time crew Ian Furlong are Australian National champions eight times over and will be hoping their home turf will give them the advantage over the GBR top guns.

The regatta will see excellent racing conditions for the Team Racing to be held on the 30th and 31st of December on Matilda Bay Waters right in front of the Perth Dinghy Sailing Club, providing excellent viewing on their balcony. The fleet racing then kicks off on the 2nd January 2020 until the 10th January 2020 and will be held on Melville Water West, a short sail from the club boasting flat water, minimal tidal influence and summer sea breeze. Andrew Wilson, current i14 Western Australian association president calls sailing on the Swan "a destination on every sailor's bucket list".

VR Sports will be covering the media for the regatta and have released a teaser video of what can be expected from their daily coverage of the event for subscribers to their dedicated online sailing channel.

The social scene will be something to remember too with a New Year's Eve party to kick things off with local band the Smash Monkeys, a Welcome Night with the promise of a unique Western Australian performance and a Legends Night featuring 14 memorabilia and stories from i14 legends around the globe.

This regatta in Perth is one not to be missed. Be sure to check out the teaser video.
