On the strength of a flourishing relationship, which was cemented originally in August 2014, the 52 Super Series has extended their agreement with bespoke logistics suppliers Peters & May for a further three years.

The 2018 season saw the TP52 fleet shipped for the first time to Croatia and 2019 comprised a demanding schedule of five regattas over five months, moving from Menorca in May in the Med to the Atlantic for events in Porto Sherry - a new venue - to Cascais, Puerto Portals and finishing up in Porto Cervo in September.

The Peters & May crew managed the transport, loading and unloading of the racing boats, containers, RIBs and equipment at each venue.

But 2020 will usher in a new challenge when the 52 Super Series fleet moves to the Southern Hemisphere for the very first time as the first two regattas of next season take place in Cape Town, South Africa.

"As a leading logistics company, we support racing programmes and circuits all over the world, but with the 52 Super Series, it is much more than the commercial presence and business, we enjoy the challenge of what is demanded by the very high level these teams are operating at. And we raise the profile of the company and what we do through the association with the 52 Super Series," explains Justo Gosalbes, Peters & May's General Manager in Spain. "Our biggest job is to keep all the boat captains happy."

"Next year will be a big challenge to move the fleet together from the Med in January to South Africa for March and early April and then swiftly back to Tuscany for Scarlino in May. We have to arrive on time. The key part is that nothing can fail," continues Gosalbes who has just returned from a reconnaissance mission meeting the stakeholders and partners in Cape Town.

Peters & May are especially proud of the role they played this summer when the TP52 Provezza broke her mast on the first day of racing at Puerto Portals, Mallorca.

"I had a call at 1400hrs during a suppliers' meeting in Valencia and their replacement mast was shipped to Palma that evening and was at the dock, tuned and ready to race at 1700hrs the next day. Similarly, when the storms delayed shipping from Porto Cervo at the end of the season we were able to charter a replacement ship at short notice. Our connections and contacts are second to none and we have a very, very good hard-working team working with us on the 52 Super Series," Gosalbes recalls.

Agustín Zulueta, CEO of the 52 Super Series comments: "For us there is no doubt that Peters & May are the world's leading logistics company and we are very proud to be partnering with first-class companies like them. Now the 52 Super Series is shipping to South Africa and exploring the southern hemisphere, more than ever the logistics required are very important not only with the shipping but also with the customs and equipment delivery. Peters & May have been working with us since the beginning of the 52 Super Series, so it reflects the good relationship with our partners and the building of a common goal which is to create the best grand prix monohull racing platform in the world."

Brendan Darrer, boat captain of Quantum Racing confirmed: "We really do use Peters & May for everything we possibly can. They really care about what they do. For us that included shipping the boat and containers, importing sails from Asia, on which there can be no mix ups, customs, paperwork during the build stages including tax schemes and VAT carnets. It is almost inherent in this business to be able to make late decisions and make it work and Peters & May always pull out all the stops. Justo does not get enough credit for what he and the team does."
