Provisional results have put Eric Lisson’s Cavatina as the winner of the 2006 BMW Round Ireland Yacht Race. The now two time winner of the event arrived in Wicklow on Saturday morning at 01.20, moving her ahead of Eamon Crosbie’s Teng Tools on corrected time. Everyone in Wicklow had an anxious wait in the early hours of Saturday morning as a southerly tide and moderate breezes brought the Granada 38 to the top of the leaderboard. Cormac Farrelly’s Pepperbox, one of the smallest boats in the fleet at 32 feet, finished strongly, bringing her up to third place. Aodhan Fitzgerald’s Ireland’s West finished fourth and George Radley’s Imp finished fifth.

“2006 has shown another fantastic win for Eric Lisson’s Cork-based crew. Cavatina has now entered the history books as being the second boat to ever win the Round Ireland Yacht Raced twice, the other being Denis Doyle’s Moonduster” said Wicklow Sailing Club Commodore, John Johnson.

Denis Noonan, Race Organiser, “This results shows that the Round Ireland Yacht Race is for everyone, from the top Grand Prix boats to the club racers, with all entries from the very largest to the smallest capable of winning the Round Ireland”.

With a handful of smaller boats still to arrive in Wicklow, the leaderboard may well be revised, but Cavatina’s result looks almost certain at this stage.
