The historic Lipton Cup trophy will be contested in teams for the first time, after an exciting new format was decided by the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria (RYCV) this week.

Taking place on 16-17 November this year, the Lipton Cup Regatta is a multi-class sailing event hosted by RYCV in November, which is expected to bring in more than 200 entries this year.

Teams will be made up of three boats across three major racing divisions with one boat bringing in their Division A or B IRC result, another from Division C using its AMS result, and the final boat from Division D using its PHD result.

While the teams trophy is only open to the divisional racing, the one-design classes competing can still look forward to an exciting format with Etchells, Adams 10s, S80s, and off-the-beach fleets all sure to have close and competitive racing across the weekend.

The cruiser, trailable and classic yachts will also be ineligible to compete in the Lipton Cup teams events as they only have two races scheduled for the weekend, however their format is set up to be as enjoyable as possible and reaffirms the event's purpose as the "regatta for everyone".

As a move to push for inclusivity and add some excitement to the final overall result, teams can be put forward by a yacht club or be individual boats getting together and forming their own teams from across different clubs, which is sure to spice up the rivalry.

The Lipton Cup racing is made up of both keelboats and off-the-beach dinghies and boasts one of the most diverse fleets for annual events across Victoria, while also being one of the most historic sailing events in the state.

Sailors and visitors alike can expect to see strong fleets across a range of junior and senior classes take to the water, showcasing the great capability the club has at running major events, as well as the ideal location it is when it comes to off-water festivities.

Entry is now open, visit www.liptoncup.com.au/enter-race.

Toby Bush and Kemmel Thorogood win with a day to spare We have one day and one race to go but we have British World Champions "elect" in Toby Bush and Kemmel Thorogood; that is provided they don't pick up a DNE tomorrow so the (ever so strong) advice is that they are not going anywhere near a Cadet. There are many clichés written about the first day of a regatta There are many clichés written about the first day of a regatta - "you can't win it on the first day but you can lose it" being front and centre I guess. A day-by-day blog update from the team in Melbourne ahead of the Worlds Good and not so good. Good was the weather and the fact that all the boats have emerged from the container intact.
