On Wednesday (NZT) Sail-World's NZ Editor, Richard Gladwell appeared on Sailing Illustrated's twice weekly live video show, with host Tom Ehman.

Coming on at short notice, after a standard late night finish, Gladwell gave an update as best he could on the fire in the Sky City International Conference Centre, and the effect that could have on the 36th America's Cup. Sky City are also a sponsor of Emirates Team New Zealand. At the time of the interview the fire had been burning for 18 hours (and continued to burn for another 24 hours before being brought under control).

The new conference centre was near complete and due for handover. The updated situation is that the fire is now out (0900hrs NZT) having flared up spectacularly during the night. The fire fighters made the decision to to sacrifice the top floor and roof, and use the minimum of water to extinguish the fire to minimise water damage at the lower completed levels. Damage is still being assessed.

Other topics discussed included the current state of the America's Cup, AC75's, wind limits, Stars + Stripes USA, World Sailing's upcoming Annual Conference in Bermuda and a lot more. Each brings their own information and perspective to the show, giving the viewers maybe a better picture of what is happening in a very crucial part of Sailing's history, and how all that could unfold.
