In 1953, Russell's Brewery agreed to sponsored this race annually by donating a nine gallon beer keg to celebrate the event. With their departure from the scene, Daleside Brewery continued the tradition, and today's race was won by Jimmy and David Cliff, co-owners of Bee Sharp.
In fine conditions and a variable 10 - 20 knot wind, twelve competitors took part in today's race which saw fast sailing speeds, and wind gusts keeping the crews busy.
The race was a Pursuit, which means a staggered start based on a yacht's handicap. All yachts completed the one-course circuit without incident.
Commenting after the race, Jimmy Cliff put their win down to a good strategy and the Bee Sharp team working closely together.
The Yacht Club congratulates Bee Sharp for today's win, who were delighted to receive the nine gallon barrel of blonde beer donated by Daleside Brewery.
