Pennine Sailing Club hosted the Scorpion Northerns over the weekend of the 28th / 29th Sept, with a challenging schedule of nine races (seven to count) over the two days.

Saturday's forecast of torrential rain, floods and strong winds put off some competitors with a reduced fleet of 8 taking to the water in difficult conditions. Six races were run on short courses, testing the boat handling and spinnaker work of all. The day was dominated by Andy Mckee and Steve Graham sailing 2042, with 6 victories. Chris Massey and Tom Daniel from Hollingworth Lake S.C. were equally as consistent with a full set of 2nd places. The tight spinnaker legs also suited the weight of Rich Jones and John Purdie in 1947 from Llandudno S.C, who were in a strong overnight position of 3rd. Most capsizes of the day award was easily taken by Dave Woodhead and Jerry Hannabuss sailing 2044 who had some good first beats, but couldn't master keep the gybes under control.

The evening was dominated by a fantastic curry, backed up by beer and Rum in 2nd and a quiz in 3rd.

Sunday saw lots of rain, but light winds from the north east, replacing the strong westerly of Saturday. A schedule of 3 longer races was run, in force 2 breeze. The day was a much closer affair with Mckee and Graham battling with Woodhead/Hannabuss at the front. Mckee still took the day with 2 firsts and a 2nd, Woodhead taking a first and 2 second places. Other notable improvers from the previous day were Chris Muxworthy and Dave Thompson in 2031 picking up a couple of thirds and a forth in close racing with Massey/Daniel. Jones and Purdie struggled in the lighter breezes, leaving the door open to 2044 to take 3rd overall.
