The Tulane sailing team demonstrated an impressive performance on the choppy water on Saturday, earning a current second-place standing among six competitive teams after one day of action in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Regatta.

"I'm very pleased with how today has gone," head coach Charles Higgins said. "To be sitting in second behind only the defending national champions is representative of how hard this team has worked in practice until this point."

The Green Wave's A Division boat, with skipper Ciara Rodriguez-Horan and crew Amelia Schofield, stands in second among the women's teams. The two recorded 79 total points after nine races, earning seven top 10 finishes.

Skipper Cameron Giblin and crew Quinn Keenan stand at second in the B Division and overall in the regatta, totaling 34 points after nine races. The freshmen duo recorded three first-place finishes and checked in in the top 10 in every race of the day.

In the C Division boat, skipper Asher Zittrer and crew Stephen Hahn stand in third place, recording two race wins and six top 10 finishes to total 74 points.

Defending national champion College of Charleston is leading the regatta, totaling 169 points among the three divisions. The Green Wave are just short of catching the Cougars, totaling 187 points in second place. British University is in third place with 213 points, followed by Old Dominion, UC Santa Barbara and Jacksonville in fourth, fifth and sixth place with 313, 314 and 351 points, respectively.

Tulane is back in action on Sunday and set to sail the remaining nine races in the regatta out of the Municipal Yacht Harbor on Lake Pontchartrain.

The regatta is free and open to the public. Fans are able to stay updated with the Green Wave this weekend by tracking the team's live scores here.
