Over 50 boats will be racing with the Royal Southern Yacht Club this weekend competing in the Land Union September Regatta supported by Doyle Sails.

The last regatta of the Royal Southern Summer Series 2019 will decide the winner of a fantastic prize: an all inclusive entry to Antigua Sailing Week 2020, including return flights for seven people and a bareboat from Dream Yacht Charter. The superb haul of prizes will also include holidays to Berlin courtesy of Land Union and Doyle Sails will provide a video debrief by multiple world record holder, Brian Thompson.

The IRC Division will include the pocket rocket HP30 Class and the 18-strong Performance 40 Class with highly competitive racing on tight Solent courses. The Mixed Sportsboat and J/70 Classes will race on a windward leeward course and the Club Class and Double Handed Classes will enjoy longer round the buoys racing. Up to six races are scheduled over two days of action.

For the big prize of a trip to Antigua Sailing Week, the top five teams in contention come from four different classes. Blair & Beckett's King 40 Cobra racing in IRC1 and P40 leads the Royal Southern High Points Series from Handley and James' Mustang 30 Gr8 Banter racing in IRC3. Malcolm Wootton's Farr 30 evo Pegasus Dekmarx leads the series in the HP30 Class. David Hitchcock's XP38 Red Five is the leading boat in the Club Class, and Tony Mack's J/111 McFly, racing in IRC 1 and P40, is in with a chance of winning the series.

"The Performance 40 Class is all about getting families and friends together to enjoy competitive racing, and with 18 teams racing this weekend, they will all get a taste of grand prix racing," commented Volvo Ocean Race sailor and Match Racing World Champion, Dave Swete. "After racing, the P40 class love to come together to enjoy a good party and Saturday night at this regatta looks like it will be huge fun. The series prize of a trip to Antigua Sailing Week is perfect for the P40 class, it's a really social regatta with top competition and fantastic sailing conditions - what better way to kick off the 2020 season in the Performance 40 Class," continued Dave Swete.

The Prince Philip Yacht Haven on the banks of the River Hamble will be a hive of activity, the Upper Bar and Den's Deck will be the hub for regatta with hundreds of competitors, friends and family enjoying the superb modern facilities at the Royal Southern Yacht Club.

The prize for the overall winner of the 2019 Royal Southern Yacht Club Summer Series will receive a voucher from Antigua Sailing Week, which generously includes:

  • 7 Return flights to Antigua, funded by Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority.
  • Bareboat Dream Yacht Charter.
  • Dockage in UNESCO designated Nelson's Dockyard.
  • Free entry to the 2020 edition of Antigua Sailing Week, April 25 - May 01, 2019.
