Ocean Alexander scores with two innovative designs at 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival

by Alexander Razinkov 13 Sep 2019 18:36 AEST

Ocean Alexander, long known for its superyachts, has recently expanded its offerings with the debut of its new Revolution series, the 90R, and the sporty center console outboard 45D. Noted designer Evan K. Marshall penned both yachts and each brings new qualities to the builder's impressive repertoire.

"Ocean Alexander is a global brand and one of the leading yacht manufacturers in the world," says CEO Johnny Chueh. "We create luxurious and innovative boats and always strive to get better with every next step. I am extremely happy to introduce two new models that represent the new look of our company. They both have an appealing international style and many great qualities that are unique for boats of their sizes. I'm sure the innovative, sporty designs by Evan K. Marshall and the spacious, luxurious interiors are going to be gladly met by our customers in Europe, USA and all over the world."

Revolution is here

Hull number 5 of the 90R series, which will also be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show in late September, was built on spec and is painted a striking metallic gray. It features some other touches added especially for the European market, including an extra stateroom and more options for loose furniture. A full-width main deck expands living space without compromising the performance and efficiency for which Ocean Alexander is known. This European-friendly model offers a spacious on-deck master with four additional staterooms below, a variation on previous models designed with four staterooms.

Floor-to-ceiling windows in the salon provide stunning near 360 degrees views and flood the salon with natural light. The upper deck features a Jacuzzi and a large exterior media screen. There is also a beach club with large sliding glass doors. It opens to a water level deck. A skylight and wet bar in the beach club are just a few of the impressive luxuries that are unusual in a yacht of this size.

Striking and flexible

Just as remarkable is Ocean Alexander's new 45D. Evan K. Marshall also designed this yacht, the first in the Divergence series. Four Mercury Verado 350 outboard engines power this sporty center console. Obviously suited to perform as a superb tender, the 45D is a day boat built to superyacht standards and is offered in Dive, Fishing and Coupe models. It features excellent engineering, luxurious finishing touches and innovative convertibility — including a patented drop-down bulwark.

The 45D is highly customizable, with more than 400 cosmetic options available to suit any owner's wishes. Optional features range from gyrostabilizers and night vision to live-bait wells, rod holders or storage for diving accessories. In a Coupe version, the main saloon can be completely covered with glass to ensure the area is protected from weather, expanding its versatility in colder climates.

In the bow a comfortable seating area —arrayed around a table that can be built in fiberglass, wood or carbon — folds out to form a large sunpad. Aft of the helm is a large lounge area, equipped with an outdoor galley and grill. A coffee table converts to a comfortable dining table for six at the touch of a button. The drop-down bulwarks expand the beam to almost 6 meters and feature carbon fiber poles and hidden swimming ladders. There is plentiful shade and room for carrying diving gear, fishing equipment or water toys, too.

The interior has comfortable couches that convert to a double bed, a pop-up 49" TV, a head, a shower and a simple, secondary galley.

"When my office designed the new Revolution & Divergence series for Ocean Alexander," says Marshall, "we focused on innovative design and a unique combination of features to appeal to an international market. In my opinion, we have successfully achieved that. The new direction started with the 90R, the first in the Revolution series, followed by the 45D, the first in the Divergence series.

The Divergence Series of boats offer fantastic flexibility to cater to different owners' requirements — those who like sports, diving or fishing and at the same time for families that prefer cruising in a more luxurious environment. Instead of creating several models, we have designed just one, the 45D, which — depending on the configuration selected by each owner — offers a range of options and features.

In my opinion," Marshall says, "there is no other yacht of this size offering the same combination of features on the market. These include a foldable platform, creating a super spacious cockpit for relaxing, swimming and dining.

The 90R, the first in the Revolution series, is a unique superyacht with tremendous volume compared to other 90-footers, with a one-of-a-kind beach club, full beam master suite and other features that cater to modern boating lifestyles."
