The 2019 edition of the Russian Cup ended Sunday on the race course of Malcesine: the event worked as the prologue to the week dedicated to the European Championship of the Melges 20 fleet.
The only race of today, completed in almost winter weather conditions, brings changes in the general ranking: Igor Rytov's Russian Bogatyrs grabs a precious second place in the race won by compatriot Pirogovo and, at the same time, obtains the final victory in the Russian Cup confirming the title also won last year in Cagliari.
Thus, Igor Rytov's team adds another pearl to its now endless collection of successes, all obtained in a season that has seen this Russian crew dominate the European series of the Melges World League and still hold the number 1 in the world ranking.
Russian Bogatyrs arrives at the start of the much expected Melges 20 European Championship as the boat to beat: in Malcesine they will have to try to defend also the continental title won two years ago on the race course of Šibenik.
Very good feelings are coming from the Italian fleet that gets close to success with the veteran Camay of Lauro Bonora (pt. 15), second in the standings just one point behind the winner. The lowest step of the podium goes to the Russian team of Alex Team of Alexander Mikhaylih (pt. 17) while the top five is completed by two other Russian teams: Meduza by Pavel Grachev (pt. 19) and Russotrans by Yuri Morozov (pt. 20).
