Scarborough Yacht Club Coastal Series

In the last of the six rounds of the Coastal Race, this round to Whitby and back, Revenge completed the course in a fast seven hours and six minutes. The other finalist, Starchick, had to retire due to a broken stanchion.
The Coastal Series runs monthly from May to September giving crews the opportunity for more extensive racing between shoreline and sea, experiencing an ever-changing mix of currents, wind shifts, and tidal conditions.
The far ends of the course include Whitby, Filey, Scalby, and sometimes Smethwick, and are selected according to wind and tide behaviour. Smethwick presents more of a tidal challenge so the wind strength and direction becomes important. The club runs the race over 31 or 32 nautical miles depending on destination.
Entries tend to be lower in numbers and attract committed day racers. That one vessel sailed in this round is not unusual as participants in each round are also seeking points for the whole series.
The Yacht Club congratulates Alan and Steve of 'Revenge', and prizes will be awarded at the Yacht Club Annual Prize Giving and Fundraising Dinner Dance at the Royal Hotel Scarborough on Saturday 9th November.
Series results:
1st, Revenge, a Sigma 33, owned by Alan Smith & Steve Martin
2nd, Dash, a Sadler 34, owned by Martin Donnelly
3rd, Troika, an SJ 320, owned by Tony Nicholson
