On Saturday, July 13th, 2019, for the second year in a row Campbell Conard, 16, raced in "The Longest Sunfish Race in the World" hosted by the Southold Yacht Club, Southold, N.Y. For the second year in a row, Campbell was the first female junior youth (under 18) finisher, completing the course in 5:39:37 hours.

"The World's Longest Sunfish Race, Around Shelter Island is a true sailing marathon. It is one of the rare Dinghy races that is a distance race, with a course that at its shortest is 23 miles, and that when taking into account tacking upwind can reach the length of of a marathon — over 26 miles. The sailor must contend with current and tide, avoid exhaustion, keep focused — all while competing against a group of primarily adult sailors, many of whom are truly accomplished yacht racers. In sailing this unique race two years in a row Campbell has proven herself to be a yachtswoman of merit, and should serve as an example to her peers," said Beth Fleisher, Race Committee Chair and Event Organizer, Southold Yacht Club.

Campbell learned to sail at Devon Yacht Club's Junior Yacht program, and was the Peconic Gardiners Junior Sailing Association Sunfish Champion for the 2017 season. She enjoys science is a rising junior at The Chapin School (NYC) where she is on the varsity badminton team, math team and a reporter for the school newspaper.
