Set sail to Charlestown Classic Sail Festival

Charlestown Harbour is making its final preparations ahead of the first ever Charlestown Classic Sail Festival which is taking place from Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September.

A fleet of Classic Ships are expected to arrive in a Parade of Sail at the UNESCO World Heritage Site from 4.30pm on the Friday and will remain in the harbour for the duration of the Festival.

The Festival will be a celebration of Charlestown's maritime history and classic sail, with something for everyone to enjoy over the weekend.

Friday evening's musical entertainment comes with a unique mixture of rock, pop, gypsy jazz and folk from Mad Dog McRea, supported by Flats & Sharps, live in the Inner Harbour from 7m.

On Saturday and Sunday visitors to Charlestown Harbour can purchase a Gangway Pass that allows them access to the Inner Harbour and a tour of some of the classic vessels.

There's lots of other family-friendly activities on offer including exhibitions and traditional craftspeople. Saturday's music and swashbuckling comes from The Pirates of St Piran during the day, then in the evening, the Harbour are proud to be showcasing a range of young local talent including The Woodcarts, Mog Jones & Rebecca Puckey.

On Sunday, popular sea shanty group, The Old Gaffers, will be singing in the Harbour and there will also be The Wivlescombe String Quartet to enjoy.

Food and drink will be on offer in the Harbour with the HarbourQ pop-up serving their popular grilled menu and the Winkle Picker dishing up fresh seafood choices. There will be a fully licenced Festival Bar and the popular Rum Sailor will be serving up a special Sail Festival cocktail.

  • Visitors can purchase Gangway Passes to gain access to the Inner Harbour where the festivities are held and step aboard the classic ships in the Harbour Ticket Office on the day. Prices: Adult £15, Child (3-16) £7.50, Family Pass £40 (2 Adults and up to 3 children), under 3's free.
  • During the Classic Sail Festival Charlestown Harbour is raising money for Little Harbour Hospice by donation funded parking. Parking is at Penrice school and will be from: 2pm-4pm on Friday and 10am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
