2019 U.S. Team Racing Championship comes to Newport Beach

The 2019 U.S. Team Racing Championship for the historic George R. Hinman Trophy is coming to spectacular Newport Beach, Calif. this week.
This US Sailing National Championship, hosted by Newport Harbor Yacht Club, features three days of racing beginning Friday, August 16 through Sunday, August 18. The 2019 U.S. Team Racing Championship is sponsored by Hobie Polarized and Sperry.
First held in 1981, the U.S. Team Racing Championship remains one of the hottest events in the country. This year's Championship features an impressive list of accomplished teams and experienced team racers, many of whom have competed in and won this Championship in years past. From top-notch one-design sailors in fleet racing circles to current and former top-flight college sailors and coaches, this US Sailing National Championship attracts a wide range of sailors, both men and women.
This year's entry list features current college sailors, coaches and alumni from 13 major programs including, Yale (14), Stanford (9), Georgetown (9), College of Charleston (8), Boston College (6), Dartmouth (5), Old Dominion (4), St. Mary's (4), Hobart and William Smith Colleges(4), George Washington (2), Brown (1), and California Maritime (1).
The entry list features seven 2019 ICSA Co-ed All-American skippers, three 2019 ICSA Women's All-American skippers, and four 2019 ICSA Co-ed All-American crew.
Here is the list of 12 teams competing this week.
"The racing will be fast and furious, with little room for error," said Betsy Alison, Adult Director at US Sailing. "By Sunday's final rounds, the cream will rise to the top with well deserving sailors atop the podium."
This premier team racing event in the United States is an invitational event. Interested teams applied by resume and international teams are invited to compete. The Championship is raced in three-boat/six-person teams (three skippers and three crews). Teams will be racing the CFJ.

- Qualifying Round Robin Series
- Gold/Silver Round Robin Seeding Series
- Knock-out Series - Top 4 Teams: Semifinals, Finals, Petit Finals

Racing will be conducted in the harbor north of the main dock at Newport Harbor Yacht Club.
