The sun brings wind in Paracas, Peru. Day five at the 2019 Pan Am Games saw all Canadian sailors hit the water, racing in 8-12 knots. The stakes become high as each fleet competes for a spot in the medal race tomorrow.

The battle is on for our 49er duo, Alexander Heinzemann and Justin Barnes. Chasing the opportunity to qualify Canada a spot for the 2020 Olympics, this team has been giving it their all throughout the event. "Today we saw more breeze which we were happy to see, but also brought some more challenging racing" the team states. "Points are close and we have a good battle on our hands for tomorrow." Currently neck and neck with the USA, these sailors will fight it out during the two scheduled races for tomorrow, leading into the medal race on Friday.

In the Laser Radial, Sarah Douglas moves up the scoreboard sitting in 2nd place after day five. Sarah comments: "We had great conditions for today's racing. Three races in the famous Paracas breeze, and I'm happy to continue to work on my goals and learn each day. Looking forward to the last 2 races before the medal race on a Friday!"

Standings after Day 4:

  • Laser - Robert Davis - 7th
  • Laser Radial - Sarah Douglas - 2nd
  • Sunfish - Luke Ramsay - 1st
  • RS:X Women - Olivia Mew - 6th
