GBR Cadet Team at the Cadet World Championship at Kyrinca Morska, Poland - Day 2

The GBR World Team and Promo team left the harbour with a gentle breeze, blue skies and everything to play for.
It was hard to lay the pin in Race 1, but it was still so competitive it resulted in a general recall and several boats black flagged. The second start still favoured the pin but the fleet got away cleanly. At the top mark GBR Cally Terkelsen & Pippa Smith led the fleet closely followed by BEL Thibaud Dirix. Everyone threw their kites up but with a fat wind shift the kites soon came down again, which later also led to the promo fleet front runner, GBR Sam Goult & Sarah Mcewan, merging with the world team fleet and scoring a 16th in the world team fleet. By the end of the race GBR Lia Fletcher and Kali Karaskas had sailed through the Russian and Aussie competitors to finish a podium 2nd behind BEL Thibaud.
Fantastic race management with fine tuning of the race course resulted in another fast turnaround for the second race of the day, in a building but very shifty breeze. Both the Polish and Russian teams exceled up the 1st beat. In the 2nd beat LEFT paid, with some big gains for the GBR team and other boats. By the end POL Pawel Kajeta won, ARG Julian Finsterbusch was 2nd and the top GBR boats were Lia and Kali in 10th and Phoebe Bradshaw and Rhona Enkel in 11th.
Race 3 started with a solid 15 knots, colder wind and significant chop. The GBR team stormed the 1st beat with Cally & Pip 2nd, Katie Yelland & Dom Rowell 4th, Hazel Whittle & Gwen Thorogood 11th, Ben Goult & Alex Mcewan 12th. At the finish BEL Thibaud held a big lead, POL Michal Debkowski in 2nd and GBR Cally and Pip in 3rd. Overall the GBR fleet moved forward on Day 2 against some tough competition from Belgium, Argentina, Australia, Russia and the hosts Poland.
In the 68 boat Promotional fleet the GBR team got off to a storming start, winning the pin and having a clean lane up the first beat resulting in Sam Goult and Sarah Mcewan 1st and Toby Bush and Kemmel Thorogood 2nd. The second race of the day was again dominated by the GBR teams with Toby & Kemmel in 1st and Olivia Gowland and Hettie Thorogoods more conservative start but great tactics around the course moving them through to 2nd place.
Race 3 started in 18 knots of wind and building chop. Sam and Sarah got another great result and finished 2nd and GBR Daisy Nunn and Oscar Bush finished 4th. GBR Ed Fletcher and Charlie Bailey achieved their best result of the series so far with an 18th. At the end of the day the GBR team are well placed in particular Daisy & Oscar, Sam & Sarah and Oliver and Hettie posting very consistent results in what was some very close, competitive racing.
