B14 Worlds Championships at Yacht Club de Carnac - Day 1

by Mark Barnes 29 Jul 2019 05:29 PDT 25-28 July 2019

Afternoon to all from your roving correspondent in what was hot and sunny Carnac. However, it is now raining and the breeze building.

Day 1 of the B14 Worlds and the prancing B14s were held ashore due to the sea state and wind which is also due to build and currently gradient breeze 22 knots gusting 29 knots. So at 1300 the postponement flag was changed to indicate that racing was held over to another day. A shame but looking at the state of the sea entering the harbour, the right decision.

So back to the shore shenanigans. After the closing ceremony on Friday, the fleet dispersed for dinner to meet up later and head out on safari, and what a safari was it. The fleet met up in the town centre and then the night began. Those that had the staying power then headed off to "Le Chandelles" nightclub, heading home around 0430 hrs. Some need guiding/escorting home, but what a night it was.

The following day, the lay-day was the treasure hunt around Carnac. Due to the night, or should we say morning, partying, the group was a bit thin on the ground, but a number of teams headed off on their pedal cars, met later on the beach, meaning a busy day was had.

Getting back to the racing, the plan is to hold three races tomorrow if it allows, but currently tomorrow morning is looking out, but late afternoon may be an option.
