Euromarine Insurance Ramsgate Week 2019 - Day 6

by Piers Hodges 27 Jul 2019 11:26 PDT 21-26 July 2018

The sixth and final day of Euromarine Insurance Ramsgate Week 2019 saw the IRC and Cruiser classes 5 and 6 compete for the 'Gold Cup' in a race which also completed the IRC East Coast Regional Championships and the Regatta overall series.

The fleet completed a coastal course in pleasant conditions with approximately six to ten knots of breeze. A late wind shift to the North-west meant that the course became rather 'reachy' which favoured boats able to carry asymmetric kites on the legs.

Mike and Jo Brand prevailed in their X34 'Foxy' to lift the Gold Cup on corrected time from 'Stiletto' with Brita van Brossum third onboard 'Zarafa'.

Gold Cup results:

IRC1 - Stiletto, Assassin & Mercury
IRC2 - Foxy, Zarafa & Vanilla
IRC3 - Swuzzlebubble, Zephyros & Pure Joy

Overall - Foxy, Stiletto & Zarafa

In the Cruiser Classes (5 and 6), local skipper Don Gray took line honours and the overall win on corrected time on-board 'Blown Away'.

Cruiser results:

Class 5 - Blown Away, Mrs Jones & Dabtoe
Class 6 - Carpe Diem, Banzai, & Miss Amelia
Overall - Blown Away, Carpe Diem & Mrs Jones

Cruisers in class seven completed a shorter course which took in one of Gold Cup race marks. James Fisher took line honours in the three-quarter tonner 'Borsalino' and first place on corrected time from local boat 'Splash' ahead of Bernard Sealy in 'Karibia Breezes' in third.
