The Cowes Etchells fleet is pleased to announce that the Royal Yacht Squadron will host the International Etchells World Championship in 2021.

Over 70 boats from the UK and overseas are expected to compete including a youth challenge from the UK, USA and Australia. Cowes has previously hosted the World Championship in 1996, 2007 and 2016, and the boats will be based at Cowes Yacht Haven.

David Franks, Cowes Fleet Captain, said "After 2016's highly successful Cowes World Championship, the Class was very keen to return. The Royal Yacht Squadron are ideally placed to deliver another superb regatta both on and off the water". There will also be a number of key regattas in 2021 leading up to the Championship.

The Royal Yacht Squadron is the most prestigious yacht club in the UK and arguably the world. In March 2021 INEOS TEAM UK, skippered by Ben Ainslie under the Royal Yacht Squadron Racing's entry, will race for the 36th America's Cup and we hope it will be on display at the RYS in time for the September Etchells World Championship. Ben Ainslie has competed with John Bertrand in past Etchells World Championships..

Bertie Bicket, Rear Commodore Yachting of the Royal Yacht Squadron, and a previous Etchells Fleet Captain said "I am delighted that the RYS will, once again be hosting the Etchells World Championship in 2021 - we have an exceptional team here in Cowes and we will be preparing meticulously in order to maintain the high standards expected for such an important and prestigious event"

The World Championship takes place on 13-18 September 2021.
