A fresh South-Westerly breeze during Thursday afternoon moderated to 15 kts by the time a fleet of 80 yachts came to contest the third race of Spencers Estate Agents Thursday Evening Late Series. The tide began to ebb after the start, giving boats more opportunities to change places.

23 Nordic Folkboats started the race - on the second attempt after a general recall. Crackerjack, Moonstone and Njord came out best on the first beat, and held their small advantage downwind. Lady Linda followed Crackerjack's offshore route on the second beat and moved up to second place. Moonstone suffered a gear failure shortly before the finish leaving Crackerjack with another win, followed by Lady Linda and Njord.

Nine Class 1 IRC yachts came out with the Race Officer giving the fleet a two mile beat to Hurst. As expected Jelly Baby excelled downwind, but it was Boomerang who held on for the win followed by Irvine Laidlaw's Oui Fling. Jelly Baby only managing a third on corrected time.

The series results in Class 2 IRC are particularly tight. White Mischief improved on her second place last week to win, with Rory Heron and Dan Snow's Mojitabel taking second. Gravity slipped to 4th this week, leaving her on equal points leading the series with White Mischief.

The J80s had a 7.5 mile course to complete, consisting mainly of their preferred windward / leeward legs. Series leaders Fiducial and Purple Haze fought it out at the front of the fleet, but it was Toby Collyer's Traffic Jam who mastered the conditions best with a comfortable win.

Series results so far can be found here.
