Day 2 of the RS Elite National Championship, held as part of the Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta, saw stronger winds than Thursday with 15-20 knots of north westerly breeze and an overcast sky.

Race 3 of the ten-race series started on time at 11am with a beat towards the city of Dublin with the Aviva Stadium in the background. Shaken Not Stirred (7, Colin Smith, Paul Smith and Anna Wells) showed the way on lap 1. Mike McIntyre in Foudafafa chased hard all the way round the course to eventually overtake and take the race win.

After some confusion surrounding the number of laps to be sailed several boats were granted redress at the end of the day's sailing by the jury who heard evidence from nearly 30 witnesses!

Your intrepid reporter in Legs Eleven does not have much to say about Race 2 as he was busy on the dock repairing his main halyard which broke at the end of Race 1. Ossie Stewart recorded his first win of the championship in More T Vicar sailing with Alice Masterman and Tom Stewart.

Legs Eleven (Paul Fisk, Richard Tucker and Pippa Jubb) managed to get back out on the course for Race 3 to lead from start to finish chased hard by Mike McIntyre in Foudafafa and Peter Copsey in The Doctor sailing with Allison Rogers and Max.

At the halfway point, boats from Hayling Island Sailing Club fill the top six places with Mike McIntyre looking hard to catch in first overall. Team Bowerman in Basil are second and Team Smith in Shaken Not Stirred are third.

Following the redress hearing, the class retired to an extremely well attended and enjoyable AGM where the members heard about the plans for the National Championship in 2020 which will be held as part of the first RS Elite International Grand Prix at the Royal Yacht Squadron. Competitors are expected from as far afield as Australia, Germany, Norway, Italy and the Americas.
