OK Open at Overy Staithe Sailing Club

by Rodney Tidd 10 Jul 2019 11:45 BST 7 July 2019

Nine OKs arrived at Overy Staithe for the annual OK Open Meeting, run every year since 1971. The wind was a fickle northerly in brilliant sunshine. The tide was running so strongly in a force 1 breeze that it was impossible to get out to sea so a harbour course was set.

Alex Scoles set the pace in the first race but a tricky second beat into the tide saw last year's winner Richard Burton pull up with Duncan Ellis, Simon Cowood and Rodney Tidd all together on the run towards the finish. Duncan arrived at the finishing line first but sailed the wrong side of the finishing mark handing a race win to Richard.

The wind strengthened slightly for the second race and Richard pulled out a large lead, chased by Alex and Rodney. With this order being maintained to the finish.

In the third race Alex Scoles pulled out a good lead with Simon, Richard dicing with each other all the way round, as were Peter Turner and Duncan.
