Feva coach Jonathan Lewis started Saturday with a pre-race briefing and boat tuning ashore in the glorious sunshine. Once the light wind settled Race Officer David Baddeley set a carantec outer loop course around an island and set off the keen young sailors on the first attempt.
Tactical sailing looking for clean air and upwind ripples on the water challenged concentration with neighbouring club sailors Edward Day and Thomas Armstrong finishing with a clear lead.
Following a lunch break and feedback briefing ashore, the race team moved the course closer to the clubhouse and laid a windward leeward course, as the wind settled to a NNW 5-8 knots. The close sailing with overlapping legs provided a stimulating course with helms having to keep an awareness of conditions and boats around them.
Joe Jones and Amelie Curtis managed to sail to the front of the fleet and took the line for what was going to be their first of several wins for the day.
Jonathan provided on the water feedback between the four further races, with Charlie Howard and Imogen Jones winning race three. Joe and Amelie took race four and five to secure first place and Joe Slipper and Katherine Burgess won the last race to take second overall from Edward and Thomas in third.
Racing was followed by tea, ice creams and a BBQ on the clubhouse balcony.
Jonathan Lewis continued the focused coaching on Sunday with all the sailors improving in the pleasant easterly breeze which even provided enough puff to see them planing in for lunch. With a dying breeze in the afternoon, much fun was had cooling off with some capsizing, swimming and a crews' race.
