2019 Melges 32 World League Event 3 at Fraglia Vela Riva - Overall

by Melges World League 7 Jul 2019 18:09 PDT 5-7 July 2019

Luigi Giannattasio's Argentinian boat Donino (with Manuel Weiller calling tactics) wins the third seasonal event of the Melges 32 World League, event that ended today, after completing seven races, on the race course of Riva del Garda.

This victory represents the second success of 2019 for Donino and makes the team unbeaten in his two participations in the Melges 32 World League 2019 (Villasimius and Riva del Garda, not having Giannattasio taken part to the second event in Puntaldia).

Only one race disputed today, whose bullet goes to the Italians of Caipirinha by Martin Reintjes (with Gabriele Benussi) in front of the German Wilma of Fritz Homann, as always assisted by Nico Celon, and the twice World Champions onboard the Russian Tavatuy of Pavel Kuznetsov (with Evgeny Neugodnikov).

In the last regatta of the event in Riva del Garda, Donino arrived as leader of provisional ranking and did his job very well by remaining close to the direct opponents on the race course to ensure the victory of the leg. In this way, Donino has in fact crystallized the primacy (with 19 points) and the final podium in which Giogi (points 28) and Torpyone (points 29) close behind the Argentinian boat.

The name of Caipirinha also enters the top five of this event, in fourth place at 34 points, and Wilma, fifth at 38.

In the Corinthian division the success goes to the German Sjambok of Jens Kuehne who precedes with little margin the compatriot Homanit by Kilian Holzapfel.

At the same time, the stage of Riva del Garda deeply shook the general circuit standings on the eve of the last round of the Melges 32 World League in Barcelona (from 26 to 28 September). Caipirinha (pt. 53) is the new leader of the ranking with two points of margin on the previous leader of the standings, Tavauty (pt. 51) and Giogi (49).

To know the name of the new champion Melges 32 World League 2019, racing is scheduled to the end of September, when some of the most spectacular sailing and competition in the history of the Melges 32 fleet is forecasted to take place.

The Melges World League is supported by Helly Hansen, North Sails, Tiirenia, Quantum Sails, Garmin Marine, La Thuile, Rocket Performance, Revi Trento Doc, Loison Pasticceri dal 1938, Rigoni di Asiago, Dai Dai, Norda, XPouf, Le Formiche di Fabio Vettori, boutique hotel Rifugio Azul (Minorca) and Rifugio hotel Lilla (La Thuile), One Ocean; the series is also supported by Team Partners UYN (thanks to Brontolo and G3Bau Sailing Team) l'Enoteca and Camarca Caffè thanks to Fra Martina Sailing Team.
