The OCC Southern New England Cruise in Bristol Harbour

by Daria Blackwell 7 Jul 2019 06:04 PDT

Members enjoyed a BBQ at the lovely home of Jill Westcott and John Bell followed by a parade and fireworks in the historic town.

Thousands of people attended the 234th annual Independence Day Parade in Bristol, R.I., the United States' oldest continuous parade, among them members of the OCC who joined in as part of the Southern NE Cruise. Marching bands, military veterans, school athletes, politicians, first responders and others marched the two-mile route through the centre of town in sweltering temperatures.

The annual celebration began in Bristol in 1785. It's one of the reasons why Bristol is designated as the “most patriotic town in America.” Visitors were then treated to a spectacular fireworks display over the harbour.
