Lin Pardey presented with the OCC Lifetime Cruising Award

Past Commodore Anne Hammick arranged for Lin to accept the award on behalf of herself and Larry Pardey while on a visit to the UK.
At a lunch presentation on the 30th of June, Lin Pardey, accepted the OCC Lifetime Cruising Award on behalf of herself and Larry who could not attend. Lin gave a delightful speech, talking about her incredible relationship with Larry (now in full-time dementia care), and talking about their early meetings with Hum Barton before the OCC was set up. Hum, she said, told them that letters don't really work to keep a group of friends in touch because they only reached one person at a time - "Let's start a Club", he said, "and in that way we'll all stay in touch with each other!"
Lin and Larry are legendary North American sailors known for their 50+ years of ocean cruising, two engineless circumnavigations, and many inspirational books and DVDs. They encouraged a generation of cruisers with their Cruising Creed: 'Go Small, Go Simple, Go Now'.
