The start of Leg 7, from Oeiras to Sines, has been cancelled this morning due to the fog in the Lisbon region. By 1300 visibility was improved and majority of the boats decided to sail down to Sines.
Sines is a lovely peaceful fishing town. Participants will have a full day to explore it on Monday, as the town centre is on the marina doorstep. Tomorrow there will be a welcome reception and a tour of the castle and Vasco da Gama Museum, hosted by the Sines Mayor (Câmara Municipal de Sines).
Sines has provided the perfect opportunity for a pontoon party for many years as boats start to realise it’s the last port before their final destination, Lagos. This year’s fleet will probably follow this now traditional yet improvised pontoon party to celebrate their sailing down the Portuguese coast before the last leg on Tuesday 25th.
