The third leg of the 5o5 Euro Cup series takes place from 21st to 25th June 2019 in Kiel. This leg is part of the wider Kieler Woche Regatta, billed as "the world's biggest sailing event" and the largest summer festival in northern Europe. For more information on the 138th Kiel Week visit the Kieler Woche Website.

This particular Euro Cup event will be watched with interest coming so close to the 5o5 European Championships to be held in Sønderborg, Denmark (6th-10th August) as many of the contenders for the European Title are using the famous Kieler Woche event as a last serious regatta before the Europeans.

Contenders include two times 5o5 World Champion Jan Saugmann (DEN), Olympic medallists and defending European Champions Jorgen and Jacob Bojsen Moller (DEN), last year's second and third placed teams Phillippe Boite/Mathieu Fountaine (FRA) and Stefan Kochlin/Andreas Achterberg (GER). Then there is the up and coming team Penny and Russ Clark (UK).

Olympic medallist turned Olympic coach Penny with husband Russ have shown in the last few international events that they are a force to be reckoned with. Stefan Baum and Gerard Roos revel in the typical Kiel conditions and are often on the international podiums.

Finally there is the legend of Kiel with so many Kiel Week wins people have lost count, five times 5o5 World Champion Wolfgang Hunger (GER). Wolfgang is teaming up again this year with multiple 5o5 world and European Champion Holger Jess (GER) who won Kiel week last year with Michael Quirk (AUS).

This is going to be an event to watch.

The Kiel regatta is the third of the popular 5o5 Euro Cup Circuit. The final leg will be held at Hayling Island in the UK on September 6th -8th 2019. For more information on the 5o5 Euro Cup Series visit the Euro Cup Series website.
