Last Sunday a Shanghai-based boat won the 2019 Shanghai Cruise Port International Regatta, the first international yacht race held at the mouth of China's Yangtze River.
Over 70 participants from 16 professional and amateur teams competed in the two-day event, held on a 600,000-square-meter water track, downstream from the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal.
Teams from six countries competed - China, Australia, USA, Italy, Japan and Norway – racing in J/80s.
Noahs Sailing Club, captained by Stephen McConaghy (AUS) and crewed mostly by Chinese sailors, won the regatta. ChinaOne Ningbo (CHN) finished second, followed by Team B.B. Marine (JPN). McConaghy said it was "good close racing, made interesting by a healthy 2-3 kts of current. Any of the top five teans could have won. It was a pretty good venue, too, with hotel, restaurant, floating marina pontoon and the racecourse all 'right there'. You could easily watch the racing from your hotel room - it was only 200m from the start line!"
