With the two events of the Melges World League having been hosted in March and April, the first rehearsals for the 2019 Melges 24 World Championship has taken place in awesome springy conditions, with turquoise waters, sunny days and constant sea breezes in the lovely race course of Villasimius (Sardinia, Italy).

The 2019 Melges 24 World Championship will be hosted in the Sardinian harbor of Villasimius this October, from the 5th to the 12th. A pre-Worlds event will be organized in the same location from September 20th to 22nd, so that all the crews can have the possibility to test the race course before the top event of the season. The Melges 24 World Championship will by organized by the Marina di Villasimius and Lega Navale Italiana - Sez. Villasimius in cooperation with the Italian Melges 24 Class and International Melges 24 Class Association.

Jens Wathne, IM24CA Chairman, has great expectations for the 2019 Melges 24 World Championship: "The upcoming Worlds in Villasimus, in the province of Cagliari, Sardinia, will be a fantastic event. It will still be warm, with turquoise sea and pleasant breezes. It will be a fantastic Mediterranean frame around this event and the Italian Nation Class is doing great work to prepare this event for the best Melges 24 teams to battle it out. Teams from North America, from all over Europe and elsewhere on the globe are preparing for this event. Logistics is almost perfect: after the Pre-Worlds, storage for the boats in between the events is taken care of too. Keep looking for news on that and I hope to see you there!".

Federico Michetti, President of the Melges Europe, stated he feels sure that Marina di Villasimius will help delivering a great event, both on the water and ashore. "We have started to work on the project and all is running properly at this stage. I'm sure all sailors will appreciate the venue and the services dedicated to Melges 24 crews."

"Someone is already training in Villasimius... hungry for victory!" commented the Director of Marina di Villasimius, Amedeo Ferrigno.

"So proud to have in Villasimius such a great event!" said the Regatta Chair of the Worlds, Mirco Babini. "The team from Lega Navale of Villasimius will do their best to make another historical world championship for the Melges 24 Class. We're working already to prepare everything for the sailors and the team on water and ashore. We are looking forward to have an amazing fleet here and have the competition in one of the most beautiful bays of Sardinia!"

The Melges 24 Italian Class together with Marina di Villasimius and Melges Europe made agreements with the major local ferry companies to grant all the participants to reach Sardinia at convenient and discounted fares: "All the crews registered to the Worlds will benefit from 50% discounted tickets to reach Sardinia from the Italian mainland. The companies that are supporting us in this way are Moby and Tirrenia, which we have to thank deeply," commented the President of Italian Melges 24 Class, Andrea Racchelli.

The Melges 24 World Championship 2019 is also final event both for the Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2019 as well for the Italian Melges24Tour 2019.

In the meanwhile, the Notice of Race has been published and entry is open at YachtScoring.

The details about the ferry bookings and other logistics will be published at melges24.com/Worlds2019
