Only one race was held in the building breeze which was won by five time World Champions Wolfgang Hunger and Holger Jess from Germany. Second in very close finish was Michael Quirk and Tim Needham from Australia, with Phillippe Boite and Mathieu Fontaine from France in third.

With the wind increasing the PRO sent the fleet to shore after the first scheduled race as winds built to 30 knots and sea conditions became too challenging even for the notoriously versatile 5o5.

The team of Quirk (AUS) and Tim Needham (GB) continue atop the leaderboard after day two of the 2019 505 Euro Cup kick off at Yacht Club de Cannes.

Racing will continue for the last day of the regatta tomorrow 21st April. The forecast is for continuing strong winds. PRO Olivier de Turckhein, from the Yacht Club de Cannes said "Winds will continue to be very challenging tomorrow but I am confident we will get at least one race completed before it gets too windy."

In what has become one of the highlights on the annual 505 calendar, the Euro Cup is a four-event series that takes place across France, Italy, Germany and the UK. There is a winner determined at each event as well as an overall series winner based on cumulative scores from three of the four regattas.

Cannes is the first stop on the 2019 circuit and has already proven to be great place to kick off the series.

The Leaderboard now stands, with one day to go:

1st Michael Quirk and Tim Needham (AUS)
2nd Howard Hamlin and Jeff Nelson (USA)
3rd Ian Pinnell and Russ Clark (GBR)
4th Wolfgang Hunger and Holger Jess (GER)
5th Phillippe Boite and Mathieu Fontaine (FRA)
