It's one year since we lost one of our Race family today, we honour John Fisher

"It's one of those things that you always dream of doing... if you're lucky enough to get the chance to do a Race like this, everyone should grab it. It isn't for everyone, but you should always challenge yourself. And this is a challenge." John Fisher

It's one year today since we tragically lost one of our Race family. Today, we honour John Fisher. On this sad anniversary, we also remember and send love to John's family and friends.

Richard Brisius, President of The Ocean Race, said: "It has been one year since Fish moved on, but I imagine that for his family it can seem just like yesterday. Yet the way they have summoned strength has brought hope and inspiration to me and the entire Race Family.

"Today, we honour John. As a loving husband and father. As a son, brother and friend. And as a world-class sailor. We are proud to preserve his legacy, to live up to his example and to keep his spirit alive in our hearts."

Fish was a man who went after his dreams, and in doing so, inspired others to chase theirs. At 47 years old, he finally got the chance to live his lifelong ambition to race around the world in The Ocean Race as part of the Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag crew in the 2017-18 edition.

During the Race, Fisher said: "It's one of those things that you always dream of doing... if you're lucky enough to get the chance to do a Race like this, everyone should grab it. It isn't for everyone, but you should always challenge yourself. And this is a challenge."
