Royal Perth Yacht Club - Dinghy updates

by Royal Perth Yacht Club 19 Mar 2019 13:56 PDT 19 March 2019

There was plenty of light wind action on Sunday morning including the occasional swim to cool down! The clear message from the coaches was that regattas aren't always held in raging gales so focus and technique in light winds are really important.

We are all set for this Saturday's unique Monkey Fist Night Race which is the only dinghy night race in WA. It promises to be a brilliant night with plenty of entertainment, food and fun so get your entry in or just come down to cheer and join the party!

Please note that due to the Night Race there will be no Sunday training for Opti Silver/Gold/Laser/Techno fleets. There will only be training for the Opti Green Fleet.

Monkey Fist 2019 Night Race & Saturday Social:

This year's Night Race will be held in conjunction with RPYC's Saturday Social Event on the 23rd March from 5pm. It promises to be the biggest yet, offering up spots for Optimists and Lasers to get involved! Sailors have the choice of competing as a solo sailor or in a team of 2, starting at 1700 and finishing at 2300.

Members Guests are Welcome!

Invite your friends & family down to join in the fun!

What's on offer?

  • $10 meals
  • ice-cream stand
  • bouncy castle & gladiator duel
  • Live music
  • pop-up bar
  • door prizes
  • lawn games
So get your friends together and join in the fun! Its set to be a fantastic night!

Youth Cup: our team had a frustrating time on Sunday and deserve points for perseverance! The conditions were fluky in the extreme which made racing a bit of a lottery. The regatta did provide experiences that will benefit our sailors in future events.

Performance Squad: we are most of the way through the initial fitness testing with the remaining testing to be conducted on Sunday March 31st. Don't forget to bring your runners!

Girls Try Windsurfing Sessions: due to all of our boards being committed every week we have put a hold on the start of this program until we can organize suitable equipment. Stay tuned for news in the coming weeks!

Trophies: it is that time of the year to find all of the trophies that were won last year and return them to Goldy for redistribution at Prize Night. Please have a hunt, dust them off and bring them in.

Flying Ant States: some of our Junior sailors competed last weekend at TCYC. Congratulations to Kathryn and Sammy 4th, Sam 5th and Rebecca 7th.

Please let Goldy know if you will be able to help out with the night race |
