Shustoke Sailing Club has a busy year of open events coming up, welcoming old and new fleets to our waters...
GP14 and Comet Trio Open Saturday 23rd March The first of the Midland Bell series usually attracts a good fleet of GP14s, kicking off their busy year of events and championships. The Comet Trios will make an interesting watch this year; with a couple of sparkling new boats on the water and a variety of rig combinations will the new boats outclass the old or will someone prove that old is best?
Severn Trent Sailing Regatta originally a mid-week event this is being trialled on the first bank holiday Monday (6th) in May this year. This usually attracts a variety of visitors from the Midlands looking for a good day out!
Solo Open Sunday 2nd June Shustoke Sailing Club have a strong fleet of club Solos who often dominate the top spots in our club series. It's always good to see some new faces giving them a run for their money! Home boat Stuart Hydon has clinched the top spot since records began (which is 2016 looking at our website...), will anyone knock him off track this year?
Merlin Rocket Open Sunday 9th June Although we don't have a home fleet or Merlins we're more than happy to be hosting this fleet for the first time this year. Being in an ideal central location with 100acres of water to sail on, great facilities, and friendly club members to show you where the bar is at the end of the day, why wouldn't you want to host your open event at Shustoke?
Optimist Open Saturday 14th September it's always great to see the kids out on the water for this one. There's always competitive racing showing off the up and coming talent who'll be giving the adults a run for their money soon...if they're not already! Or there's the more relaxed regatta fleet which is a good opportunity for kids just learning the ropes of sailing.
Laser and Phantom Open Sunday 22nd September Our home fleet of lasers have been building in numbers over the last few years, proving a popular boat with both new and old hand sailors. Combine this with the usual number of visiting boats and we're hoping for a good fleet out on the water again this year! The Phantoms usually have a close race and have their fingers crossed for a decent breeze!
Miracle Open 5th and 6th October The End of Season Championships, as the name suggests, is the last event in the Miracle calendar for the year. Although modest in numbers the racing is always incredibly tight with this fleet, with the final positions usually only being decided on the last race!
