The Ian Proctor-designed Wayfarer is one of the most versatile of sailing dinghies, used by thousands as a trainer, cruiser or racer. In 2019, over 60 years after the boat was designed it is still used by sailing schools and sailing holiday companies around the world; it is cruised on rivers, on lakes and on the sea with several famous passages to its name; and it is raced, in one design fleets and on handicap, by club sailors through to Olympians who all want high quality, competitive and enjoyable racing on the water, with friendship and camaraderie afterwards.

The UK Wayfarer Association will be well represented at this weekend's RYA Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace. Please come and see us on Stand W10 in the West Corridor (right next to the entrance to the Panorama Hall). We will be displaying a beautiful wooden Wayfarer which is set up for cruising and be giving demonstrations, both mornings and afternoons, on reefing and rigging a boat tent.

On the Hartley Boats Stand (C50 in the Great Hall) there will be two Mark IV Wayfarers on display; one is built to the standard cruising specification while the other is a race specification boat with epoxy foils and racing sails.

Don't miss our Class presentation on Sunday at 1230 on the Class Association stage when you will hear all about our boat from somebody who both races and cruises her boat, plus of course we hold our AGM on the Saturday afternoon at 1600 in Palm Court.

The Dinghy Show is a wonderful opportunity for members and prospective members to come and meet some of the most experienced Wayfarer sailors in the Class and share some of their top tips and details for upcoming sailing events this year.

Come and talk to the Association this weekend about the packed cruising and racing programme in 2019 which include:

  • The Cruising Conference at Notts County Sailing Club at the end of March,
  • A packed racing programme including the season long Craftinsure National Circuit and Travellers Series, a selection of other one and two day open meetings around Britain and Ireland and Class racing at Bourne End Week and Poole Week,
  • The 25th International Wayfarer Rally at Kragenaes, Denmark in August, and
  • The National and International Championships at Greystones, Ireland in July.
