RPYC Club Open Day © Royal Perth Yacht Club
The Royal Perth Yacht Club Open Day was a huge success not just for the number of people who visited but also the fantastic atmosphere that was generated. It was great to see so many people enjoying the many and varied activities that we have here at Crawley.
A huge thanks to Harmon, Ethan and Banjo for their help with the Tackers and SUP activities all of which were hugely popular! Banjo's creative use of a boogie board as a support boat was outstanding and hilarious to watch!!
Sadly we farewelled Josh on Sunday and wished him all the very best for his studies on the East coast. Josh has been a huge asset to our Opti Green and Silver Fleets and we will miss him!
On the plus side we welcomed Scott Hinton who will be coaching the Opti Green Fleet with Peter whilst Ainslea will work with the Silvers. This team will continue the great development of our Opti fleets and I am sure that the sailors are in for a good time!
Opti Green Fleet
The fleet has been growing well this season and we are now at capacity. It is critical for all members of the fleet to have completed their Club membership applications which can be organised with Goldy.
Monkey Fist Night Race
This unique event will be held on March 23rd for Optimists and Lasers and promises to be the biggest yet. It will coincide with the keelboats starting later and there will be plenty of entertainment for the whole family including non sailors!!. Sailors have the choice of competing as a solo sailor or in a team of 2. The race will start at 1700 and finish at 2300 so start chatting to your friends and get a team together or you can just do it on your own.
Please let Goldy know if you will be able to help out on the night. All of the event details are now on the Club's website and you can follow this link to register: rpyc.com.au/events/monkeyfist-marine-mini-night-marathon
Performance Squad
The initial planning session was conducted on Sunday with invitations to join the program being offered to the following selected sailors: Finn: Harmon McAullay, Laser: Ethan McAullay, Lawson McAullay, Lili McAullay Techno: Jake Hindmarsh, Kai Marns-Morris, William McAullay Optimist: Adam Hindmarsh, Antun Janekovic, Meg McAullay. All of these sailors are aiming for top level performance at a National or International level and have committed to competing in the next round of National championships at the very least.
The program requires a high degree of commitment which was clearly outlined and includes on water training sessions and individually tailored conditioning programs with assessments conducted at regular intervals. The conditioning program will take a holistic approach taking into account existing physical activity commitments, boat specific physical requirements and identifying and working on each individual's weaknesses. It is now up to these sailors to determine whether they are prepared to continue.
