Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club is celebrating after gaining accreditation as a centre of excellence for the quality of its training.

Following an inspection by the sport's governing body the club has been awarded RYA Recognised Training Centre status. It will now be able to run a variety of RYA courses and award certificates for sailing, windsurfing and powerboating.

RYA courses and qualifications are respected worldwide and centres are regularly inspected to ensure they meet high standards of tuition and safety.

Erica Caswell, Training Principal at Yorkshire Dales SC, said: "It means that both potential and existing members of all ages who want to develop their skills can be assured that the club has good tuition which enables people to learn in a safe and fun environment.

"We're already extremely well set up as a club in terms of having a good range of boats for people to use, excellent facilities and lots of qualified instructors. Having RYA Recognised Training Centre status will enable us to create an even easier pathway for people to get on the water to learn sailing, windsurfing or powerboat skills."

Sam Usher, RYA Regional Development Officer for the North East, congratulated the club on the hard work it had put in to achieve training centre accreditation.

"This addition to the club will see the provision of courses to its members and to future sailors, enabling them to progress in the sport," he said. "The club's facilities will provide a great venue for training, with a fantastic shoreside clubhouse and large expanse of water providing lots of sailing and windsurfing opportunities."

The club will continue to work in partnership with Bewerley Park, which is already an RYA Recognised Training Centre, in addition to now being able to offer its own RYA courses alongside its successful Saturday programme of beginner, improver and race training.

A packed calendar of sailing and training is planned at the club from May to September, including RYA Level 1 & 2 sailing courses for beginners, and a course for children in summer.

Anyone who would like to try sailing is welcome to visit the Saturday sessions to give it a go. The club will also be inviting all comers to try sailing and find out more at its Push the Boat Out open day on Saturday 18 May.

To book a free 45-minute taster session on the open day, or find out more about training at Yorkshire Dales SC, visit www.yorkshiredales.sc or email
