J/70 Winter Series 3 at Davis Island Yacht Club

by Julie & Chris Howell 11 Feb 2019 16:45 AEDT 9-10 February 2019

Forty-nine J/70 teams qualified to win the 2018-2019 J/70 Winter Series at Davis Island Yacht Club in Tampa, Florida by competing in at least two of the three weekends with the same boat and skipper.

Brian Keane's Savasana repeated as Series Champion, including a commanding performance this weekend that including four bullets in seven races. Picture perfect conditions closed the Series with two days of sunshine, temperatures in the 70s and breeze in the teens. The Corinthian division was won by Bob Willis's Rip Rullah. Both skippers now qualify for the 2020 World Championship at California Yacht Club.

Greiner Hobbs' Dark Horse finished second overall for the Series, followed by Kevin Downey's Mr. Pitiful in third.

The popular J/70 Winter Series spans three weekends of racing between early December and February, allowing participants to store their boats onsite for a reasonable fee. Additionally, on each Friday of the Series, SAIL22 led the Porch Series to offer practice races and coaching.
